[0:34] Srilania Svoboda: Ok. To help with any lag issues, please turn any scanners, radars, or mystitools off or on sleep
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: Ok, please take all cross talk to IM, and all collar, etc commands to the secondary channels!
[0:35] ***ZV***: Arrrrrr :)
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: Welcome to House of V's College of Kink! I'm the new teacher, Srilania Svoboda, and your instructor for this lesson.
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: While I have only been in Second life for about six months, I have been about in the real world for many years, as well as out in other realms of the internet, as a submissive, then became a Domme, which I have done for about 5 years.
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: For any that need to leave early, all transcripts can be found at http://collegeofkink.blogspot.com
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: The lesson for today is Basic Emoting,
[0:35] Srilania Svoboda: or
[0:36] Srilania Svoboda: "How the hell do I put my hoohoodilly in her cha cha without a poseball?"
[0:36] ***SF*** grins and chuckles slightly under her breath
[0:36] Srilania Svoboda: First, some are asking, WHAT IS AN EMOTE?
[0:36] Srilania Svoboda: Is that some breed of Emo?
[0:36] Srilania Svoboda: Emoting began back in the days we didn't have this fine 3d world to wander about in, and only had text to manipulate.
[0:36] Srilania Svoboda: To show an action instead of something said, one would mark it or in the case of IRC chats, use /me to show an action, like so
[0:37] Srilania Svoboda: *drools*
[0:37] Srilania Svoboda: ::Drools::
[0:37] Srilania Svoboda drools
[0:37] Srilania Svoboda: Easy enough, isn't it?
[0:37] ***MP*** listening intently
[0:37] Srilania Svoboda: But, we're here in this world of animations, poseballs, and lucious nakedness. So why would we need something so old as an emote?
[0:38] Srilania Svoboda: Simply put, while this digital world has many things, it's quite limited. Many toys out there make play easier to show, but have not replaced the basic emote. Simply put, the game only allows so much creativity.
[0:38] Srilania Svoboda: Not only that, not many of us can afford to slap together a 100,000 linden dungeon just to animate out every perverse fantasy, or the time to learn how to make the scripts, animations, and primwork to make a 100k fantasy playpen on your own.
[0:38] Srilania Svoboda: So, rather than restrict ourselves into boring animation loops, we emote. Mind you, that 10,000L sex bed ain't crappy either, as it DOES at least set the tone for the emoting.
[0:39] Srilania Svoboda: Seriously, which trips the trigger to flow emotes better, 2 people standing around, or one naked and bound, while the other flogs them?
[0:39] ***HZ***: nods enthusiastically
[0:39] Srilania Svoboda: Since there is still need for emoting, it's important to learn how to do a good basic emote.
[0:39] Srilania Svoboda: First thing in emoting is how to do it. it's not hard, but can take getting used to. the usual ways is marking normal text, and using the /me command.
[0:40] Srilania Svoboda: When you use the /me command, it removes the colon behind your name, showing an action, like this:
[0:40] Srilania Svoboda wraps her arm around your head, pulls you down, and proceeds to strap you into a creaking wooden rack
[0:40] ***MP*** fidgets in her seat
[0:40] ***CP*** liked that example
[0:40] Srilania Svoboda: See, not hard to do. Just type /me followed by what you want to tell the person you're doing.
[0:40] Srilania Svoboda: The other way is marking it. These are good for ones where you have a mix of talk and action. One good one is this:
[0:40] ***MP*** ::drooling at the thought::
[0:41] ***KF*** pokes ***CP***
[0:41] Srilania Svoboda: So, what do we have here? *leans in and sniffs your neck, the breath tickling* Ohhh, that perfume is divine. *purrs the last word*
[0:41] Srilania Svoboda: Note how it allows you to mix actions with talk. This style is also great if you meant to have a tone of voice, a look, a quick action, or just prefer it over /me
[0:41] Srilania Svoboda: Biggest rule is never emote the reactions of someone else. ONLY emote your actions. This is an example of a bad emote.
[0:41] ***MP*** tickles ***CM***
[0:41] Srilania Svoboda grabs you roughly by the shirt, then slaps you, making you cry.
[0:42] Srilania Svoboda: You just took away any other choice in reacting. This would make your partner just a reactive meat puppet.
[0:42] Srilania Svoboda: Of course, some like meat puppets
[0:42] ***CP*** looks at ***KF***
[0:42] Srilania Svoboda: Here's the way to make it guide the person to the reaction you want, without removing choice:
[0:43] ***MP*** rolls her eyes
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda grabs you by the front of the shirt, then proceeds to slap your face roughly, trying to make you cry
[0:43] ***KF*** looks away from ***CP***
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda: Notice the difference? This one allows your partner to do something other than cry, but expresses the direction you'd like to take things.
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda: One thing that can drive people crazy in a scene are a ton of one liner quickies. this is an example:
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda screams loudly
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda squirms and thrashes
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda then bites you as you try grabbing her
[0:43] ***PM*** strokes ***T?***'s tail trying to turn her on.
[0:43] Srilania Svoboda: See how that just breaks the whole thing up, and makes it a general pain to deal with? Let's show how you can make that into one smooth emote, that sends your partner down the happy trail:
[0:44] Srilania Svoboda while screaming, she squrms and thrashes as you try grabbing her. With one piercing shriek, she lunges and sinks her teeth into your shoulder.
[0:44] Srilania Svoboda: Notice how much smoother that looks? Lets it flow in one stream, rather than chopped up.
[0:44] Srilania Svoboda: The other hazzard, however, is the emote that does not end. The wall of text that crits for a million hitpoints.
[0:45] ***MP***: crits??
[0:45] ***MP***: whatsa crit ?
[0:45] Srilania Svoboda: Critical hits. if you play WoW, SWG, AOC, or even AD&D, you'd know what a crit is
[0:45] ***CM*** perks his ears to hear the answer
[0:45] ***MP***: ah .. ty
[0:46] ***IM*** giggles
[0:46] Srilania Svoboda: If you find your emotes are taking 20 minutes to write one reaction, and it's taking 2 screens to read, you might want to consider breaking it up into shorter emotes.
[0:46] ***HZ***: nods
[0:46] ***TW*** looks at kai and nods
[0:46] Srilania Svoboda: I did not include one in this lecture, as we've ALL seen it, and the card readining machine canlt handle one that long :P
[0:46] ***PM*** divides that statement by ten.
[0:46] ***KM*** grins impishly. "heh. heh heh"
[0:47] ***CP***: lol
[0:47] Srilania Svoboda: To wrap up the class, remember the basics, and a couple of the worst mistakes one can make when emoting.
[0:47] Srilania Svoboda: Our next week's scheduled class will be basic roleplay, so come ready to get into the spirit of things!
[0:47] Srilania Svoboda: Questions, opinions, feelings?
[0:47] ***KM*** hops into shopping bag and rummages around for his halo, he must have brought it.... hopefully.. peeks out of bag and listens.
[0:47] ***MP***: This is my First class, Miss Srilania .. thanx ..
[0:47] ***CP***: Mine too
[0:48] Srilania Svoboda: I know, a cut and dried topic, but it's aimed to help those starting
[0:48] ***CM*** wonders if there is a sign to show your "play-partner" that you havent finished your emote and just split it up...
[0:48] Srilania Svoboda: lol
[0:48] ***MP***: Zavijava's mic is on
[0:49] ***KM***: (c) <-- continued. often used to let partner know yo ain't done yet, shush
[0:49] Srilania Svoboda: Well, if the emote is in local chat, if you keep the box open, you get 2 chat bars to use
[0:49] ***KF*** wonders if casandra will be his partner
[0:49] ***KM*** hides in shopping bag
[0:49] ***ZV***: sorry about the kids :)
[0:49] ***TW***: thank god you don't use it kai.
[0:49] ***CP*** looks around
[0:49] ***CM*** nods "Alrighty, thanks"
[0:49] ***KM***: hehehehehe
[0:49] ***MP***: -> LOL <-
[0:50] ***PM*** . . .
[0:50] ***KM*** uses notecards for his massive novel posts.
[0:50] ***CP***: partner in crime, kael?
[0:50] Srilania Svoboda: But, usualy, if you're hitting your emotes right, you will RARELY need to continue an emote
[0:50] ***KM*** snickers
[0:50] ***KM*** cough
[0:50] ***MP***: Hand me one , if you have an extra, Kaidon
[0:51] ***KM*** hangs Miss a shopping bag?
[0:51] ***KM***: *hands
[0:51] ***TW*** look in kai bag for his gag.
[0:51] ***MP***: same day and time next week, Miss Srilania ??
[0:51] Srilania Svoboda: Mind you, a Gorean setting is a far cry from being a stripper and escort, where taking 10 minutes to emote sucking a dick can lose you a customer
[0:51] ***ZV*** hates emotes that take 5 minutes to wait for and they are full of stuff about the writers body
[0:51] ***KM*** hides the gag playfully
[0:51] ***CP***: lol
[0:52] ***KB*** raises an eybrow at Miss Srilania
[0:52] Srilania Svoboda: Oh, this silly notecard didn't save that
[0:52] ***ZV***: Thank you Sri :)
[0:52] Srilania Svoboda: My Sl career has been as a stripper and escort
[0:52] Srilania Svoboda: All transcripts can be found at http://collegeofkink.blogspot.com
[0:52] ***MP***: Miss Srilania, when is the next class ???
[0:52] ***IM*** pats ***KB***'s head and brushes down her hackles. It's okay, girl.
[0:53] Srilania Svoboda: We'll be having it next week, same time and day
[0:53] ***MP***: okies
[0:53] ***CP***: will it be at different times?
[0:53] ***CP***: more then one class I mean
[0:53] Srilania Svoboda: And there will be a morning repeat of this class, thursday at 7am
[0:53] ***CP***: lol cool
[0:53] Srilania Svoboda: For Class times and topics, Y/you would always check the Search/Events and look for College
[0:53] Srilania Svoboda: [ you have reached the end of the current notecard - resetting to first line... ]
[0:53] ***PM***: Are you aware that these night (for me at least) Forums aren't listed in the notecard given out for this class???
[0:54] Srilania Svoboda: Well, I think the notecard sign out there hasn't been loaded right since July
[0:54] ***PM***: That would probably be correct.
[0:54] Srilania Svoboda: But, Classes are usually listed in events, and if you are a group member of House of V, you do get notices
[0:54] ***PM***: and I don't see this class listed under Education. Is there another catagory I need to be looking for?
[0:55] Srilania Svoboda: Well, under events
[0:55] Srilania Svoboda: Just search College
[0:55] ***PM***: Searh > Events > Education > dates (Today) not there.
[0:55] ***CP*** pats kael on the head
[0:55] Srilania Svoboda: Category- ALL
[0:55] ***KF*** laughs
[0:55] ***IM***: They are usually listed as discussion.
[0:55] Srilania Svoboda: CHECK Show Mature
[0:55] ***KF*** giggles
[0:56] Srilania Svoboda: Yes, they are listed as Discussion
[0:56] ***IM***: But all is safer, these classes are usually the only "college" listed.
[0:56] ***PM***: interesting.
