ROLE PLAYING & LIMITS - Tuesday

Pirate Russell: Ok, today's Class is Role Playing (RP), setting the Scene, and Limits
Pirate Russell: ((and I can't type for crap today))

Pirate Russell: About 99.99% of SL is RP of one sort or another, and all of online BDSM is, pretty much by definition
Pirate Russell: What I'd like to do is go over some of the basics that I've discovered in My nearly 3 yrs in SL, and get imput from y'all, about what you like and don't like.
Pirate Russell: First thing is emoting, is there anyone here that doens't know how to /me to emote?

Pirate Russell: Anyway, the next part of RP that I'd like to mention is the flow.
Pirate Russell: I am usually a pretty fast and accurate typist. Some of the people I've played with are not. This can make it hard to stay in the flow of a Scene

Pirate Russell: Add in the fact of different primary languages (thanks for the reminder, Star) and the fact that some of U/us do other things with our hands during parts of some RP
Pirate Russell: Then there are instance where girls are gagged, and expected to only toss in the occasional whimper...
Pirate Russell: All these things can be good or bad, depening on the partner(s) in a scene, and what's actually going on!

Pirate Russell: That is something that may need to be discussed prior to, or during a 'time out' in an RP

Pirate Russell: Does anyone have any tricks or tips on how they manage the flow of a RP Scene?
***RL***: yes , i try tokeep the sentances short but many
***RL***: it allows quicke responses
Pirate Russell: yes, that's a good point, and if you turn off the typing anim, like I do, it may seem that you've been ignored if someone is typing a LONG entry
***SB***: well - not a trick really - but give the time needed for reactions
Pirate Russell: yes, and you need to be sensitive to your partner(s), as they may be *busy*... or just slow typists

Pirate Russell: As a copule of the girls in this audience can attest, I sometimes get a little carried away with My .... typing

Pirate Russell: I try not to overwhelm, but I do get on a roll sometimes
Pirate Russell: I guess this kind of dove-tails into the last thing, and most important part of today's lesson, and that's Limits
Pirate Russell: Limits in My experience come in 2 types Hard Limits, and Soft Limits

Pirate Russell: Hard Limits are the ones that you'll just NEVER EVER do!
Pirate Russell: For Me, that's Poo Play, Blood, Mutilation, etc, and playing with known males, no matter what gender AVI they use
Pirate Russell: O/one's Hard Limits can change... maybe someday I decide that it's ok to cut My ear off, or something...
Pirate Russell: Or I might decide that I don't like redheads anymore....

Pirate Russell: They can be fluid, but are usually fairly unchangable ((I HOPED girl was listening))

Pirate Russell: Well, ofr this class I'm using Limits to refer to Role playing, but yes, that could change, I have a tattoo, in SL, but don't care alot for 'tramp stamps' in RL
Pirate Russell: And I'm a whimp when it comes to pain.. he he

***RL***: opinions seemto be expressed without much limits is this an issue for your type of rp?
Pirate Russell: It can be, If limits are not expressed either in profiles or pre-scene talking, it can make for a real uncomfortable time for all players in the Scene, and it doens't really even have to be a scene.
***RL***: itjust seems that it does not allow much evolvement for the rp
***RL***: to be allowed to find the limits as it werte
Pirate Russell: It can interrupt the flow, it can cause the one with the limits to be unhappy with the seen or the players, and the one that broke the Limit could feel pretty bad for doing it, even if they didn't knwo the limit was there

***TF***: I try to communicate and then I am done.

Pirate Russell: That is NOT a good thing for anyone, cuz now ***TF***'s not having fun, I'm not having fun, and likely the 'child' that showed up isn't either

Pirate Russell: What I mean by "After Care" is pretty much basic Decency. If you break a Limit, Hard or Soft, dont' just go, "Aww crap!!" and log off
Pirate Russell: Especailly as a Dominant, it's good to sit and talk, if the 'wronged party' wants to talk about it, and make sure that everyone is Ok about it.
Pirate Russell: As those that know Me, or have been to last week's classes, know, I'm BIG on the "c" word.....

***TF***: So I have done enough playing that what you are talking about is one group of people like us.
***TF***: People that are emotionally playing. I have hit the basic RP players and then isn't any after anything.
***TF***: It is a risk you take.

***TF***: So if you haven't figured out what sort of RP person they are be very wary.
Pirate Russell: I've played with over half the people here, and I care about all of them

Pirate Russell: My philosophy behind SL Relationsips, is that I want everyone to have FUN, that's why we're here....
